DAY 03 (September 08)

THE SOUTH SIDE

Today we’ll visit the impressive Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall that plunges about 60 meters from the cliffs of an ancient coastline. Visitors can even walk behind the curtain of water for a truly unique perspective — just be prepared to get a little wet! 😉

We’ll then continue to the majestic Skógafoss waterfall and stop by the nearby Skógar Museum, which offers a fascinating glimpse into Iceland’s past. On our way to the next hotel, we’ll pause at Sólheimajökull to admire the glacier and its dramatic surroundings.

Finally, we can make a stop at the nearby Sólheimasandur beach to see the famous — and very photogenic — plane wreck resting on the black sands.

Day 04 (September 09)

SOUTH-EAST SIDE

If we ges up early today, we can catch a spectacular sunrise at Reynisfjara Beach, with its dramatic basalt columns and striking sea stacks. After breakfast, we’ll head to Dyrhólaey Lighthouse and visit the quirky “Yoda Cave,” named for a rock formation at its entrance that resembles Yoda’s face.

Our journey continues to the breathtaking Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon and the 20-meter-high Svartifoss waterfall. Along the way, we’ll also pass the charming turf church of Hofskirkja.

Tonight, we’ll stay at a hotel near Diamond Beach and the Jökulsárlón Glacier, surrounded by some of Iceland’s most spectacular scenery.

Of course, we’ll also stop by the famous Diamond Beach, just across the road, where glistening chunks of ice sparkle like jewels on the black sand.

Later, we’ll drive through the stunning coastal area of Stokksnes in the Eastern Fjords, a perfect spot to admire Iceland’s rugged beauty and, with a bit of luck, catch a glimpse of wild reindeer.

Our next stop is Dettifoss — the most powerful waterfall in Europe! From there, we’ll continue to the geothermal area of Hverir, where bubbling mud pots, steaming vents, and colorful mineral deposits create one of the most otherworldly landscapes in North Iceland.

We’ll also drive around Lake Mývatn, famous for its astonishing variety of landscapes and volcanic formations.

Tonight, we’ll stay near Húsavík, a charming coastal town affectionately known as Iceland’s “Whale Watching Capital.”

Today we’ll explore one of the most scenic areas in northern Iceland: the Tröllaskagi Peninsula. We’ll drive along the rugged coastline until we reach the charming town of Hofsós, where we can relax in the local pool — renowned for some of the most spectacular views in Iceland!

As we continue our road trip, we’ll pass by several quaint turf churches, including Grafarkirkja, the oldest turf church in Iceland. Tonight, we’ll stay in Blönduós, one of the largest towns in the area — though with a population of only around 800, it still feels wonderfully cozy and intimate.

After a few scenic detours along the Ring Road, we’ll arrive at Hvitserkur, a striking rock formation shaped like a rhino, perched next to the black sand beach on the Vatnsnes Peninsula.

We’ll then continue to the famous Snæfellsnes Peninsula, home to some of Iceland’s most photographed natural wonders, including Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall and the iconic Kirkjufell mountain.

Our next stop is Stykkishólmur, a charming fishing village and the main town in the area. Here, we can take a stroll to the lighthouse before heading to Grundarfjörður. In the evening, we’ll have the opportunity to visit the popular Kirkjufell mountain without the crowds and enjoy a truly spectacular sunset.
